Question
In the town Musjid where the daily Salaat takes place with Jamaa't as well as Jumuah Salaat, no one sat for I'tikaaf. The business people while having their shops in town, all live in the residential area. However, there are many Muslims living in town in the neighbourhood of the Musjid. Whose obligation is it to sit for I'tikaaf in this Musjid – the business people or the residents?
Answer
The sin for not observing I'tikaaf in the town Musjid descends on the whole community of the town – on those who reside there. Those who do not live in the town are not liable.
