If an adult girl marries without the approval of her parents, is the nikah valid?

It is Waajib for a girl to obtain the consent and blessings of her parents for marriage. Although her marriage will be valid without parental consent, she will be sinful if she marries without their consent, if the parents have a valid reason for refusing. However, according to the Shaafi Math-hab the marriage will be valid only if a male contracts the nikah for her. She must compulsorily have a male to represent her.
