Question

Some laymen say that Hazrat Abu Sufyaan bin Harb as well as Ikrimah bin Abi Jahl radhiyallahu anhuma were not true believers – Nauthubillah- because They only accepted Islam after Fath e Makkah out of fear of being killed by the Muslimeen. Is such a statement kufr?

Answer

Thousands accepted Islam after the Conquest of Makkah. Were they all Munaafiqs? What 'some laymen' say about Hadhrat Abu Sufyaan (Radhiyallahu anhu) is the effect of Shiah influence. Those who disparage the Sahaabah – any Sahaabi – may find their own Imaan precariously perched on the brink of kufr. Whilst their statement is not such kufr for the application of the Fatwa of Takfeer, nevertheless, they hover on the brink of Jahannam and real kufr.
