Hajj and Umrah The Majlis Vol 28 No 09, p.5

The deceased had made wasiyyat of Hajj to be performed for him.

Question

The deceased had made wasiyyat of Hajj to be performed for him. However, one third of the estate does not cover the expensive Hajj of today. What should be done?

Answer

If one third the value of the estate is insufficient for the Hajj expenses, the heirs may voluntarily contribute from their own money the shortfall to have the Hajj performed. Also, someone living in Makkah could be appointed to perform the Hajj. The exorbitant/exploitive haraam cost will then be substantially minimized.
