Question
I gave an amount as Zakaat. Afterwards when I calculated, I found that I had given about R3,000 more than my actual Zakaat. May I regard this R3,000 as an advance payment for next year‟s Zakaat.
Answer
Yes, the R3,000 may be deducted from your next year's Zakaat. However, if you were aware of the extra amount and gave it as Sadqah, then you may not change your intention to Zakaat after having given the money to the poor.
