I am from Gambia. A friend had committed zina. The woman is pregnant. They want to marry, but the Imaams here say that the marriage can be performed only after she delivers the baby. Is this right?
Answer
Gambians are followers of the Maaliki Math-hab. According to the Maaliki Math-hab, the Nikah cannot be performed before delivery of the baby.
