A brother who reverted to Islam is being cremated by his non-Muslim family.

Question

A brother who reverted to Islam is being cremated by his non-Muslim family. There's no documentation for his accepting Islam however there are witnesses when he accepted. How can Janazah Salah be performed if he is cremated?

Answer

If those who want to perform Janaazah Salaat for the brother whose family is cremating him, are Shaafis, they may perform Janaazah Salaat. However, Hanafis may not perform Janaazah Salaat without the presence of the mayyit (deceased). Dua for his maghfirat (forgiveness) will suffice. His Muslim friends should make dua for him.
