Question
The father made an error when naming the daughter to be married. He has a few daughters. The daughter Maryam was supposed to be the bride, but the father mistakenly told the Imaam that Aishah is the bride. Thus at the nikah the name Aishah was mistakenly mentioned. Was the nikah valid?
Answer
The nikah to Aishah was valid despite her name being erroneously mentioned. If the intention is for Maryam to be married, then the husband should issue Talaaq to Aishah and a fresh nikah should be performed.
