Question

How long does a man have to wait before getting married after the death of his wife. In our country (Ghana), the man has to wait about a year. Is this a requirement of the Shariah?

Answer

A man may marry immediately. Marriage is permissible at any time after the death of one's wife. There is no waiting period. The custom at your end is a practice of jaahiliyyah.
