Question
Besides usual Ibaadat, how should one gain maximum benefit from the month of Ramadhan?
Answer
Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said:
"Many are the fasting persons whose fasting is nothing but hunger."
This is the state of the fasting of most people. Abstaining from food is not the only requisite for valid fasting. The true benefits and rewards of fasting come in the wake of abstaining from all kinds of sin and futility. For example, if someone slanders you or insults you, maintain silence. Do not respond. Do not defend yourself.
Keep strict control of the eyes and tongue. Most of the spiritual pollution which ruins the fast and contaminates our Imaan enter into us via these two avenues.
Increase Nafl Salaat and Tilaawat of the Qur'aan Majeed. Keep the tongue engaged in constant Thikr whilst working, walking, sitting, etc. Don't meet people unnecessarily. Don't go visiting. And, most importantly abandon the cell phone. May Allah Ta'ala keep you with aafiyat.
