Question
At a Janazah, the Imaam announced that if the mayyit owed anyone they should contact the son of the Mayyit. The son is not the biological son. He is an adopted son. Is it necessary to have specified that it was the adopted son and is it deceptive to refer to him as 'son' of the Mayyit?
Answer
There was no need for the Imaam to have made the announcement. The creditors will obviously go to the heirs/executor to claim. The announcement is a bid'ah custom. He should not have said that the adopted person is the son of the mayyit.
