Kindly advise regarding the following situation. Mahar was stipulated in gold to be paid later not immediately. Is it permissible for the husband to pay the equivalent value of the stipulated amount in cash? If it is permissible will he give cash according to the gold value at the time of nikaah or according to current gold value?
Answer
If the wife demands gold, then gold has to be given to her since this was her stipulated mahr. If they agree on cash, then the current price of gold must be paid.
