How is Zakaat calculated on gold jewellery? Is the value of the jewellery including the workmanship, considered for Zakaat, or only the weight of the gold?
Answer
If Zakaat of gold is being paid with anything other than gold, then obviously the current value of the gold will be considered, not the workmanship. Workmanship is not Maal-e-Zakaat. The current value of the jewellery, plus the value of the stones in it, will be Zakaatable if the jewellery is stock-in-trade.
