Question
Due to negligence a lady has accumulated about 200 Qadha fasts. Now her health does not allow her to fast. Should she pay Kaffaarah?
Answer
If the lady is genuinely unable to fast to fulfil the fasts which she had missed, then she should pay Kaffaarah. The Kaffaarah for each fast is approximately R20 (twenty rands) or about 2 kg flour. However, should she at any time regain her heath, then she will still have to fast regardless of having paid the Kaffaarah.
