Question
A man after performing Hajj, gives himself the title of Al-Haaj. He also writes and signs his name with this title. Is this riya?
Answer
Yes it is riya when a person desires to be called Al-Haaj. It is just like a person who performs regular Salaat wishing to be called Musalli. Hajj is an ibaadat. The objective of ibaadat is Allah's Pleasure, not to gain and hanker after titles.
