Question
A man had uttered Talaaq to his wife 9 times. But he continued to live with her. Now after two years, he gave her three Talaaqs. What is the ruling regarding these three Talaaqs and the Iddat?
Answer
The woman and man were living all this time in the state of adultery. There is no iddat for a zaaniyah (a woman who commits zina). The three talaaqs are futile and of no effect. The marriage had ended long ago when he had uttered three Talaaqs.
