The estate of my father was not wound up for many years. What happens to Zakaat on the funds in the estate?
Answer
Zakaat must be paid by the heirs only when they receive their shares of inheritance in the form of cash, gold and silver. As long as they had not taken possession of their money, Zakaat is not payable.
