Nikah (Marriage) - Talaaq (Divorce) The Majlis Vol 22 No 03, p.4

The husband dislikes the name of his wife, and asked her to change it for a better name.

Question

The husband dislikes the name of his wife, and asked her to change it for a better name. The wife complied. Her parents are angry with her. In this situation what should the wife do?

Answer

If the husband wanted his wife to change her name, then she had acted correctly. Since it is the husband's wish, the parents should accept the decision and not be offended or grieved. In an issue of this nature, the wife has to submit to her husband's wishes even if her parents dislike it.
