WARNING TO ALL BUSINESSES IN THE SEBENZA BUSINESS AREA
It has come to our attention that individuals claiming to represent an organisation called “People Against Illegal Immigration and Workers Exploitation (PAIIWE)” are visiting businesses in the Sebenza area and alleging that businesses are employing undocumented foreign nationals.
Reports indicate that these individuals may be demanding money from business owners and threatening further action if payment is not made. In one reported incident, an amount of R8 000 was allegedly paid. The individuals reportedly refuse to properly identify themselves, do not provide contact details, and claim they will return at a later stage.
Please be aware: • No private individual or organisation is authorised to demand money, penalties, or fines from businesses. • Any legitimate inspection or investigation relating to immigration matters, labour issues, or criminal offences must be conducted by the relevant government department or law enforcement agency. • Demanding money through intimidation, threats, or false representations may constitute extortion, fraud, or impersonation.
If approached by such individuals: • Request official identification and proof of authority. • Do not make any payments. • Record vehicle registration numbers, names, contact details, and photographs where possible. • Immediately contact SAPS if money is demanded or threats are made. • Report the incident to the Sebenza CPF, Business Forum, or your nearest SAPS station. • Open a criminal case if you believe you have been threatened, intimidated, or defrauded.
We urge all businesses within the Sebenza Business Area to remain vigilant and to report any similar incidents immediately. Sharing information will assist SAPS in identifying and addressing these activities.
