Omar Suleiman, the controversial American public figure has brought much unwanted problems to South Africa. This is especially based on his problematic actions in the US, done under the banner of activism. 2. Muslims in South Africa are quite used to the PR stunts of local public figures posing as scholars, also framed in such a way as to justify the worst of wrongs under the flimsiest of pretexts, hoodwinking the public and the scholars into tolerating, accepting, and embracing the transition from traditional Islam to a modern heretical framework labelled as Islam. 3. South African Muslims were duped into thinking that closing the Masajid before the government did so was a wise and appropriate course of action, not realizing the horrible consequences that came with it to destroy the fabric of religiosity and spirituality that existed in South Africa before it happened. In addition, it added an indelible stain on these figures and their organizations, with added disgrace that will remain until Allah knows when. 4. In the same way, American Muslims and now South African Muslims are being beguiled at the public relations stunts of Omar Suleiman, who has come to promote his institute of uncertainty and doubt, as well as ostensibly redeem himself from the horrible image that is staining his name. 5. Omar Suleiman finds it extremely difficult to move away from his link with the LGBTQ activism he was involved in, as well as the horrible mark it has left on his name. This has not stemmed from the South African ‘Ulama, but it garnered the attention of Americans and Europeans a long time ago. ‘Ulama and scholars in America and Europe also refuted the actions of Omar Suleiman. It is foolish to dump the blame on the South African ‘Ulama who have been guiding and teaching the local and global community for decades. 6. Alhamdulillah, the local luminaries, who have been embraced and accepted globally for decades taught us to verify and do a screening of any public figure or lecturer before endorsing him. This is in line with the tradition of Page 2 of 4 Islam. It baffles the mind as to how a person like Omar Suleiman, who prides himself in his research and fact checking cannot do the same back home before participating in his activism before he attends mixed events, interfaith programs, prayers in the US government, and posing with LGBTQ priestesses. 7. It seems that a number of foreign public figures and activists all mumble the same lines, probably scripted from before, when they get caught out in promoting liberalism, heresy, and innovation. ‘I had to make a judgement call’, ‘I did not know what the set up was to be like’, ‘I did feel awkward’, ‘Look at the greater good’ etc. Subhanallah, with the repetition of the same actions comes the repetition of the same lines. These are no mistakes. The set up and participants of these events are laid out well in advance and with a figure like Omar Suleiman, who claims that his work is published after much research and peer reviews, it stands to reason that he will find out beforehand what the set up actually is. It is part of our Deen to not put one’s self in a problematic position and to save one’s self from a compromising circumstance, as taught by Sayyiduna Umar radiyallahu ‘anhu. 8. Omar Suleiman praised his Yaqeen Institute and the work that it does in front of the local ‘Ulama. Yaqeen Institute has on its website the research papers of problematic and heretic figures like Dr Jonathan Brown and Tamara Gray. Dr Jonathan Brown has clearly stated, ‘I fully support the right of people to insult the Prophet in the United States because that’s the best regime for human happiness.’ This is the kind of teaching that Omar Suleiman and Yaqeen Institute promotes people to view and possibly adopt. Is Dr Jonathan Brown, a University Professor, a Muslim? 9. Omar Suleiman has invited South African ‘Ulama to write papers for his institute that will be critically reviewed by university professors like Dr Jonathan Brown and others so that he can channel the energy and talent of ‘Ulama that have studied in the traditional Madaris into promoting full blown modernism and liberalism. By adopting this tactic, he has not come to be inspired by the South African ‘Ulama he outwardly praises, but he has Page 3 of 4 come with the aim of modernizing the traditional ‘Ulama, and guess what? The ‘Ulama are requested to do this for free! Astaghfirullah, an open invitation to the traditional ‘Ulama to write un-Islamic and anti-Islamic material for free. This is how Omar Suleiman is watering down authentic traditional Islam, subjecting the research and talent of ‘Ulama to the nonsensical peer reviews of university professors that have no idea what they talk about. 10. Dr Jonathan Brown falsely accused Sayyiduna Mu’awiyah radiyallahu ‘anhu of ‘encouraging his supporters to forge hadiths detracting from the standing of his opponents, the Shiah supporters of Ali and his descendants.’ This report, according to his later retraction, was in line with the Western Historical Critical Method, and was thus acceptable to be put in his book, Misquoting Muhammad! If this is the level of scholarship of the reviewers of the papers on the Yaqeen Institute website, then I seek protection with Allah for myself, and the entire Ummah from such codswallop and bullocks. 11. An important standard by which a person is gauged before taking Deen from them is to carefully check his company. Dr Yasir Qadhi is a well-known public figure and associate of Omar Suleiman. Dr Yasir Qadhi studied under Tony Blair, yes, that’s correct, the engineer of the genocide of millions of Muslims in Iraq and elsewhere. Yasir Qadhi promotes heresy of all sorts. He too addresses mixed audiences in the Masajid in US, where the Masjid fully resembles a church and synagogue, with men and women sitting side by side on chairs arranged like church pews! 12. Before going into more, I think that this much of information is sufficient for any clear-thinking Muslim and traditional ‘Alim to understand that the heresy promoted and taught by Omar Suleiman and his local South African hosts is no different from the heresy of the Rawafid, Christians, and others. 13. The modernists and liberals are a sect of their own that worship their desires. They have their own ‘scholars’, who are actually university professors who spend their time destroying Islam from within, after they benefited tremendously from their Orientalist teachers. Because they suffer Page 4 of 4 from an inferiority complex and are failing in their attack to dismantle traditional Islam, they are now inviting the ‘Ulama to join them, in line with ‘if you can’t beat them, join them.’ 14. If an ‘Alim, on his own accord joins them, that’s his choice. He chooses to abandon the traditional path of his teachers, undermining their position and status, laughing at his institute, and then goes home with a straight face knowing full well that he is on the path of hypocrisy. 15. No human being is perfect. No traditional scholar is perfect. No traditional Madrasah is perfect. At the same time, the universities that attack and harm Islam in the name of Islam are not perfect either. They stand as institutions to attack and wipe out Islam, whilst the traditional ‘Ulama stand guard and protect the honour of Islam and the Shari’ah. 16. Part and parcel of the modernist agenda is to make the common Muslim and the ‘Alim feel inferior about himself and his ways, and then abandon them to embrace modernity. This is exactly how the Jews worked to destroy Christianity and how the Christians worked to destroy Judaism. Now, they both have joined forces to make the Muslims destroy Islam from within.
