HILAAL IN THE WAY OF THE SHARIAH
HILAAL IN THE WAY OF THE SHARIAH
30 March 2025 articles Page1 PO Box 3393, Port Elizabeth, 6056 South Africa Email: [email protected] The Majlis 29 Ramadhaan 1446 – 30 March 2025 STUPIDITIES PERTAINING TO THE HILAAL IN THE WAY OF THE SHARIAH THERE IS NO MOON-MADNESS Once during the time of Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam), no one in Madinah Munawwarah saw the moon of Ramadhaan. Soon came an A’raabi (illiterate village dweller/ bedouin) who claimed that he had seen the hilaal. He was a complete stranger to Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam). Our Nabi (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said to him: “Do you to testify to the Oneness of Allah?” The A’raabi testified. “Do you testify that Muhammad is the Rasool of Allah?” The A’raabi testified. Thereupon, Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) turned towards Hadhrat Bilaal (Radhiyallahu anhu) and instructed him: “Announce to the people that Ramadhaan has commenced.” This was the simple and beautiful manner of questioning and confirming the sighting of the hilaal. Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) did not pose an array of stupid questions in the style of today’s molvis who are impressed by the ‘scientific’ stupidities of the moron astronomers. Instead of following the simple Sunnah of Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam), they follow the western stupidities of the astronomers who themselves are ignorant of the Shariah. The birth of the moon, the size of the moon, the altitude of the moon, the tilt of the moon, the angle, the moonset lag and all the other nonsensical parameters associated with this issue did not feature in the Sunnah method of confirming the sighting of the A’raabi. These factors have no relevancy for establishing the issues of the Shariah. Page2 The prescription of the Shariah is crisp and simple. If Aadil (not faasiq) persons report their sighting, it must be accepted and confirmed. All the technical and astronomical factors which usually cloud and mar the hilaal issue have no share in the determination of the establishment of the Islamic months. Declaring and emphasizing the simplicity of the Shariah, Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: “We are an Ummi (Illiterate) Ummah. We neither write nor calculate. The month is so much and so much and so much (i.e. sometimes 29 days and sometimes 30 days).” When Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said “so much and so much and so much), he indicated with the fingers of both hands, and the third time he folded one thumb to indicate 29 days. Ummatan Ummiyyatan (Illiterate Ummah): The word Ummi in this context does not mean ‘stupid’. Stupid are the astronomers and the bootlicking molvis of entities such as united Ul-LOO council of south Africa (bogus uucsa). The term illustrates the simplicity of the glittering Shariah. If Muslims submit to the Shariah, there will be no stupid moon controversies which the madding moon crowd annually churn up.Was this page helpful?
