We write to you on behalf of the affected investors of Almabroor Investments. 2. As you are no doubt aware, the Almabroor group of entities has collapsed and is now subject to business rescue and liquidation proceedings. Thousands of investors, the majority of them members of our community, have lost their savings. We have many widows, pensioners and vulnerable people who are now dependent on charity and handouts because of this scheme. 3. Many investors placed their trust and their life savings in Almabroor on the understanding that it was a Shariah-compliant investment which enjoyed the confidence of respected Ulama. It is our view that Mufti Shafiq Jakhura was associated with Almabroor, and the affected investors are entitled to understand the nature and extent of his role, including any role he played in endorsing, advising on or promoting the investment, and in the events that led to its collapse and the resulting losses. 4. In light of your standing in the community and your leadership in matters of Islamic ethics and accountability, we respectfully request your intervention in this matter. Specifically, we request that you facilitate a meeting between the Almabroor Transparency Movement, a delegation of affected investors, and Mufti Shafiq Jakhura, so that he may explain his role in relation to Almabroor and its collapse, and the loss suffered by widows, pensioners and the vulnerable.
