The members of the sufi tariqahs in Syria and elsewhere in West and North Africa dance to the tune of thikr.

Question

The members of the sufi tariqahs in Syria and elsewhere in West and North Africa dance to the tune of thikr. They go round and round, hopping and jumping. Is this type of thikr allowed in Islam?

Answer

The whirling, hopping and dancing of the sufi tariqas in Syria and generally in West and North Africa are acts of haraam bid'ah. They dance, hop and jump because shaitaan tickles and entrances them. They all are under the spell of shaitaan. They whirl and swirl like insane apes.
