A landlord arranges with his tenant: 'If you pay on 1st of every month, I shall give you a discount of R100." The rental is fixed at R1500. Is this transaction permissible?
Answer
The R100 'discount' is not valid. It is not permissible to arrange the deal in this manner. In effect Zaid arranges with his tenant to pay him R100 interest for making earlier payment. It is not permissible.
