The owner of a car instructed a man to sell his vehicle for a certain sum.

Question

The owner of a car instructed a man to sell his vehicle for a certain sum. The owner would pay the man $500 for his effort. The worker sold the car for $1000 more than the price fixed by the owner. Is he (the worker) allowed to keep the extra $1000 for himself?

Answer

No, the worker may not keep the extra $1,000. It belongs to the owner of the car. He is entitled to only his $500 which was promised to him. The only way in which he could receive the $1,000 is if the owner gives it to him as a gift of his own free and happy will.
