Is it permissible for a Muslim lawyer to represent and defend a criminal if he knows that the person is guilty?

Question

Is it permissible for a Muslim lawyer to represent and defend a criminal if he knows that the person is guilty?

Answer

The Qur'aan Majeed prohibits acting as a lawyer for a guilty criminal. It is not permissible to defend a guilty criminal. However, if the criminal acknowledges his crime to the attorney and repents, then it will be permissible to represent him to save him from the injustice of the kuffaar legal/unjust system.
