I was told that once a boy becomes mukallaf, his father can demand rent from him for staying in the house.

Question

I was told that once a boy becomes mukallaf, his father can demand rent from him for staying in the house. What if the boy is not earning?

Answer

The father may not demand rent from even his Mukallaf child if he (the child) is not earning. If the child is wealthy, the father may ask rent. But as long as the child is unable to earn, it remains the father's duty to support him.
