Question
A divorced woman is flagrantly involved in extra marital relationships. She observes no purdah whatsoever. She conducts herself like a prostitute. Is it still the duty of her adult son to financially maintain her. The son is in a dilemma. She misuses the money he gives her. Due to her evil conduct, does the son have the right to sever ties with his mother?
Answer
It is not permissible for him to sever ties with his mother regardless of her immorality. She is his mother. He may not disrespect her. It remains his Waajib obligation to maintain her. He should always give her naseehat with respect and humility, and make dua for her reformation. But he has to maintain good ties with her.
