The Ulama in India are organizing protest marches to protest against the new Waqf Bill which aims to confiscate all Waqf properties.

Question

The Ulama in India are organizing protest marches to protest against the new Waqf Bill which aims to confiscate all Waqf properties. Shoud I join these protest marches? The Ulama here argue that as long as the niyyat is sincere and the objective is to defend the Shariah, the marches are permissible.

Answer

Protest marches are of the ways of the kuffaar. Our tareeqah – the method of the Deen - is either Jihad or Sabr and Dua. When we lack the power to wage Jihad then we adopt Sabr and make dua. If our Duas are not accepted by Allah Ta'ala, then to a far greater degree will the kuffaar method of protest marches not be of any avail.

Niyyat (Intention) is not sufficient for the acceptability of an act. Along with a sincere niyyat, the method adopted should also conform to the Shariah. Since protest marches do not conform to the Shariah, the niyyat does not suffice. Therefore abstain. Make dua.
