My friend, Faatima bought a microwave. I paid for it with some haraam money which I had in my possession. After some days, Faatima gave me a sum of money. When I asked her about it, she said that it was not payment for the microwave. It was a gift. Is this 'gift' halaal for me?

Faatima had given you a gift since it was not her intention to pay you for the microwave. You bought the microwave with haraam money which is Waajibut Tasadduq, that is, it was compulsory on you to have given the haraam money to a poor person. What you now think or had thought is irrelevant. It does not change the mas'alah. Your thinking makes no change. Faatima is now sitting with a haraam item. It is now your obligation to inform her that you had paid for the item with haraam money, hence the microwave has to be compulsorily either given to a poor person, or sold and the money be given to a poor person. The money which Faatima gave you is halaal for you. She gave her halaal money to you as a gift while you deceived her and involved her in haraam with your haraam money. Also understand that a microwave is extremely harmful. It causes even cancer.
