Question
There is a trend of moving to western countries like Canada, U.S.A., Australia and U.K., and getting citizenship. If we look at the oath that a person has to give to the queen when citizenship is granted, it is something like bay't. Is this permissible for a Muslim? Muslims from the subcontinent are desperately trying to gain citizenship of these countries.
Answer
It is not permissible to migrate to countries such as Canada, Australia, UK and US. The oath to the Queen is haraam. Furthermore, most of these migrants lose whatever little Imaan they manage to cling to in India and Pakistan. They do not have the vaguest perception of the objective of life on earth and of the return to Allah Ta'ala. In the pursuit of the dunya, they barter away their Imaan, retaining only a Muslim name and a superficial outer facade of Islam.
