I am a lawyer.

Question

I am a lawyer. I sometimes refer clients to a relative who is also a lawyer. Although I do not stipulate a fee for referrals, my relative insists on paying me. What should I do?

Answer

Make it clear to your relative that a referral fee is haraam. But if he insists to give you something you may accept it as a gift. But clarify to him that you are accepting it as a gift, not as a fee.
