Question

After completion of Taraaweeh, our Imaam makes a 25 minutes loud dua using the microphone. Most people, already tired from the 90 minute Taraaweeh Salaat, are frustrated and some even fall asleep while the Imaam recites his very long dua. He even cries during his dua. Will it be permissible to abstain from participating in this dua amd leave to perform Witr elsewhere?

Answer

The Imaam is most inconsiderate in making a 25 minute dua, and that too a bid‟ah dua aggravated by the haraam use of the microphone. He should make his long 25 minute dua at home or alone after the 2 Nafl of Isha. It is not permissible to impose such takleef (difficulty) on the Musallis. The Imaam, to say the least, does not apply his mind constructively. He should shed his tears in privacy not in public congregation. The dua after Taraaweeh should be about 3 or 5 minutes at the most. It is permissible, in fact necessary, to abstain from the Imaam‟s bid‟ah dua. You may perform Witr elsewhere. It will
