I am a building contractor. People come for quotations for their building projects. Is it permissible to charge for a quotation?
Answer
It is not permissible to charge for a quotation. A quotation is merely stating the price which is intrinsic to a sale transaction. Whether the quotation is written or verbal, it is essential to apprize the customer of the price, and a fee for informing him of the price is haraam. It is riba.
