A long time ago, a company had shares in a sugar mill.

Question

A long time ago, a company had shares in a sugar mill. At that time, this mill was only for sugar. For some time now, this mill has been making alcoholic beverages along with other things. Is it permissible for us to use the money we get from it for our own use? Should we sell our shares and use that money or should we give it to the deserving of Zakaat?

Answer

The income should be given to the poor. One should not remain a shareholder in the sugar/alcohol company. In fact, the shares in a donkey entity such as are all these companies are not permissible. The dividends they pay are riba which should be given to the poor.
