I purchased a vehicle in good faith.

Question

I purchased a vehicle in good faith. I was given the documents of the vehicle. There was no reason to doubt the validity. After some time I learnt that the vehicle was stolen. The seller has disappeared. What do I do? Can I sell the vehicle?

Answer

It is not permissible to sell a stolen item. Brother, if you are unable to locate the person who sold you the vehicle, then your only option is to try and find the original owner and to return the vehicle to him. In this dunya you have lost the amount you have paid. But you will be rewarded in the Aakhirat. Furthermore, Allah Ta‟ala will replenish the loss here in some other way.
