I purchased an item from a man without knowing that it was a stolen item.

Question

I purchased an item from a man without knowing that it was a stolen item. I sold it. The owner discovered the item and retrieved it from the person to whom I had sold it. He now demands a refund from me. Am I obliged to give him a refund?

Answer

Yes you have to refund the person to whom you had sold the stolen item. You have to claim from the person from whom you had purchased the stolen item.
