Salaat The Majlis Vol 27 No 03, p.7

An old lady is confined to bed in a hospital.

Question

An old lady is confined to bed in a hospital. She is unable to move. What is the position of her Salaat? She is permanently in the state of najaasat.

Answer

As long as she can move her head, Salaat will be Fardh. She has to make ruku and sajdah with signs of the head. Someone should assist her to make wudhu. Assuming that this is not possible, then Tayammum should be made. If this too is not permissible, then she should perform Salaat even without Tahaarat and repeat it whenever she regains sufficient strength. Even in the state of permanent najaasat, it is not permissible to abandon Salaat.
