Question
A Maulana says that on the basis of an Aayat of the Qur‟aan the earth is flat. Is he right?
Answer
The venerable Maulana has misused his brains. Qur'aanic aayaat may not be misappropriated to substantiate any scientific view. The Qur'aan is the Book of Allah Ta'ala for the Hidaayat of humanity. The Qur'aan does not concern itself with science and theories pertaining to mundane issues, and with shoemaking, plumbing, etc., etc.
Whether the world is flat, round, oblong, etc. is not discussed by the Qur'aan nor is it permissible to cite any Aayat to prove any view which has no relationship with Hidaayat which is the Objective of the Qur'aan Majeed.
