Question
A molvi says that Islaah is not possible without being bay‟t to a sheikh. Is this right? What is the consequences of a mureed not obeying his sheikh?
Answer
Bay't is not at all a requisite for Islaah. Following the ta'leem of the sheikh is necessary for moral reformation (Islaah). A Mureed who does not obey the jaa-iz (lawful) instructions of his sheikh for no valid reason, will not achieve success in the process of Islaah. But he will not be punished in the Aakhirah for such disobedience.
