Are products containing the ingredient L Cysteine halaal? The ingredient is mostly derived nowadays from the feathers of birds. But previously it was derived from only human hair. Will such products be halaal?
Answer
The ingredient if derived from birds' feathers will not render the product haraam. Birds' feathers are taahir. However, L Cysteine derived from human hair or pig hairs renders the product haraam. Since its source is unknown, all products with this ingredient are haraam.
