My Muslim friend has retail shop wherein he sells readymade t-shirts and jeans. His customers are mostly Muslims. The t-shirts and jeans are tight fitting and designed according to the latest trends and fashions. My friend says that many ulema have given him permissibility for selling such clothes. As these clothes are against sunnah mode of dressing and in emulation of kuffar in terms of designs, style, trends and fittings how can these be permissible? It has been observed that when youngsters don these dresses they do not grow their beard one fist in length as is sunnah but they shorten and style their beards as per kuffar fashion to go along with their dress. Will my friend not be sinful for encouraging kuffar style of clothing and devaluing the Muslim dressing? How will his income be halaal? How will there be barakat in his rizq?
Answer
Most certainly your friend is sinful selling haraam garments to Muslims. The permissibility stated by some ulama is highly erroneous. Every simple Muslim, provided he is sincere, can understand that it is not permissible. Your friend is aiding in the commission of haraam. His earnings are not halaal.
