I am moving out of the rented flat. I had paid a deposit in addition to the month's rent when I moved in. Now the landlord refuses to refund my deposit. He says that he needs it to paint the flat. Can he refuse to return my deposit?
Answer
It is not permissible for the landlord to refuse refunding the
deposit and to use it for painting the flat. His action is haraam. He must refund the deposit.
