I gave a brother a loan which he is unable to repay. Can I write off the debt as my Zakaat payment?
Answer
You cannot offset your Zakaat with debt owing to you. Your Zakaat will not be discharged. However, you may give the debtor your Zakaat, then after he has taken possession, you can demand payment.
