Question
I am currently in my final year of University in the UK and only have about 2-3 months remaining. After this, Alhamdulillah Allah Ta'ala has blessed me with the desire to become an Aalim and so I am also currently looking for a suitable Darul Uloom where I can commence my Aalim course studies later in the year. So far I have applied to some Darul Ulooms in South Africa and a Darul Uloom in the UK. What advice do you have for me in regards to choosing a Darul Uloom?
Answer
and Naseehat
Regarding Darul Ulooms: Please understand well that in the current era, almost every Darul Uloom has become mercenary. There is hardly a Darul Uloom where the Ilm of the Deen is imparted for the Pleasure of Allah Ta'ala. The Ustaadhs, almost without exception, are all mercenaries. They are in pursuit of the dunya.
The mercenary effect of the Institution is highly contagious spiritually and morally, and this attribute is transferred to the students with adverse consequences for their Akhlaaq.
While there is still effort in the Darul Ulooms to create an academic intellectual foundation in the Students, but as far as Islamic Morality is concerted, the Students are generally bankrupt since in this era this vital Branch of the Deen has been excised from the curriculum. The circumfluence of worldliness in today's Madaaris is destructive for the acquisition of the Roohaahi effects of the Qur'aan and Sunnah. Taqwa is an alien concept for both the Asaatizah and Talaba of today's Darul Ulooms. They actually frown on Taqwa which has become antiquated and expelled from daily practical life. There is no emphasis on practical implementation of the Ilm imparted at the Madaaris.
The worst Darul Ulooms are in UK although the South Afri-
can ones do not lag far behind in the villainy of worldliness and Kitmaanul Haqq. Almost all Darul Ulooms are guilty of concealing the Haqq or subverting the Haqq in their pursuit of worldly and nafsaani objectives. The primary concern is to retain the pleasure of the people, especially of the large donors. The Pleasure of Allah Ta'ala is, in reality, of no importance and significance. Darul Uloms are nowadays modelled along Western educational institutions. In this silly and satanic process, they make a mess and a mockery of themselves. There is no originality left in the Madaaris.
The originality which is supposed to be the pride of a Darul Uloom is the atmosphere and aura of Ghaar-e-Hira (The Cave of Hira) where the Fountain of Ilm was revealed.
Nevertheless, despite this lamentable state of the Darul Ulooms, if the student is mature, sincere and determined to pursue Deeni Ilm for Allah's Pleasure, then he will still make the grade by Allah Ta'ala. If you are of such a disposition and temperament that will be conducive for the pursuit of Ilm, then at least the Body of Ilm is still available at the Darul Ulooms.
