Question
All the houses around my house are single-storied. I want to add a top floor on to my house. What is the Shariah's ruling?
Answer
In the scenario described by you, the windows in the upper floor must be high, that is close to the ceiling to prevent anyone in your house from being able to look into the yard / house of the neighbours. It is not permissible to install the windows at such a level from which you will be able to look into the premises of the neighbours.
