My neighbour invited me to a dua ceremony for his brother who has recently died.

Question

My neighbour invited me to a dua ceremony for his brother who has recently died. Is it permissible to go for this dua?

Answer

It is Sunnah to visit the home of the deceased within three days of his death. When visiting, there is no ceremony to be observed. Just go and express sympathy with the inmates of the home. You should mention that they should have Sabr and make dua for the deceased. If the invitation is to join a congregational dua at the house, then do not go. Make your own dua at your home for the deceased. There is no 'dua ceremony' for this occasion.
