Question

We are currently faced with a dilemma. My daughter was diagnosed with an immune system problem which its attacking the kidney heart and brains. The kidney has been affected and the heart. The problem we faced with now is to try and stop it going further and another major issue is loosing blood due to the kidney not being able to function correctly despite doing all conventional treatments. The concern is that her blood type is rare so it puts her in a difficult situation where blood is not always available. After much consultation with Dr's it was suggested that our best chance at saving the kidney and arresting its spread further will have to use cells from her blood which they will extract edit and put back so that it can help the kidney regain function and also address the auto immune system problems. Its potentially life saving since the major organs are under attack. Is this treatment permissible?

Answer

The sickness will be stopped and cured only by the decree of Allah Ta'ala. Regardless of medical treatment, the final decision is the decree of Allah Ta'ala.

Stem cell therapy is not permissible. Nothing of the human being may be used for medicine/medical treatment. The cell treatment suggested by the doctors is not permissible.

As for 'life saving', this is the imagination of the doctors. Allah Ta'ala says in the Qur'aan Majeed:

"No person will die except at the appointed time by the decree of Allah."

Nothing can delay Maut, not by even a second. Maut comes only at its appointed time. It is a gross misunderstanding to believe that medical treatment can save life or thwart Maut. Resort to only halaal treatment, and continue making dua. Resign to the decree of Allah Ta'ala. Whatever happens, is by His decree.
