Question
Is the stepfather a mahram for his stepdaughter? Can she go on a journey with him?
Answer
A man is not a valid mahram for his stepdaughter. There must necessarily be a degree of hijaab between them. This applies even if the stepfather is a buzrug or a Sheikh of Tasawwuf. But in these times, they are fussaaq and fujjaar. Even the girls are faasiqah/faajirah.
Our finger is on the pulse of the community. Over the many decades we have been apprized of innumerable cases of sexual corruption and molestation perpetrated by so-called mahrams – stepfathers, uncles, fathers-in-law and even grandfathers. They acquit themselves like vile rascals displaying attitudes of atheism. They are satanically blind regarding the Presence of Allah Ta'ala and the Two Recording Angels. Right in the Presence of Allah Ta'ala and the Angels they commit their vile acts of sexual misdemeanors.
When the nafs goaded on by Iblees lapses into the state of drunken lust, then the awareness of being a mahram does not dawn, and even if there is this awareness, the satanic lust is overwhelming because practically the scoundrel happens to be an atheist.
The Fuqaha have emphasized the need for even uncles to exercise caution with their nieces. While this is the advice of the Fuqaha, we are aware of numerous satanic episode of sexual molestation by these fussaaq/fujjaar mahrams. They should be treated as ghair mahrams.
Just the other day, i.e. a couple of months ago, a man was separated from his wife because he fell in love with his wife's daughter. Both the rubbish man and the rubbish girl insist that it is permissible for them to 'marry'. Some jaahil, murtad character even performed their bogus 'nikah', and today they are living as 'husband and wife'.
A man is not a valid mahram for his stepdaughter. In fact, nowadays they are scoundrels who may not be trusted. Hijaab is incumbent.
