The Moulana at our Musjid allows a young boy, albeit baaligh, to lead the Fardh Salaat while there are adult Huffaaz and Moulanas present.

Question

The Moulana at our Musjid allows a young boy, albeit baaligh, to lead the Fardh Salaat while there are adult Huffaaz and Moulanas present. Is this proper? The Moulana sees nothing wrong with it.

Answer

There is much wrong with it. It is improper to allow a child even if he is baaligh, to lead the Fardh Salaat when there are adult Huffaaz and Aalims in the Jamaat. This is a sign of Qiyaamah. Notwithstanding the validity of the Salaat behind a baaligh child, the Shariah requires that an elderly person of knowledge be the Imaam.
